What you'll do

Song Structure and Concept

Explore story and emotion in a song and how it's told conceptually and lyrically in a unique way. Also, learn the basics in song structure and how these anchors can assist and build a satisfying experience for the listener.

Tips on Melodies, Rhythmic Positioning and Hooks

Let's figure out what makes a song irresistible? These days it can really be accentuated in the production and arrangement, but how can we implement repeat value even at the bones of a song? We'll explore useful tips and examples.

Sharing and Chatting About Your Work!

We'll listen and chat about the songs that you're working on. See what you like about it, discuss any trouble spots that feel sticky or could use unlocking. This is your time to get feedback in a low stakes, fun and constructive environment as well as applying some of the tools we cover in class.

Who you are
Anyone who is looking to start a song, finish a song or wants to just learn and think about music in a different way. Some kind of musicality is definitely encouraged, but all that's really required is being a music fan and an ability to put some chords together in some way, shape or form - whether that be on an instrument or through loops on a DAW, etc.
What to bring
- Piano or guitar or music making instrument/device/software (ie: DAW, using samples from Splice) - A way to record your brainstorming/melody gibberish/vibe finding (ie: voice memo app) - A way to write down your lyrics/scraps (ie: notes app, journal)
